Philosophy versus Revelation: which is real, which is false?

Philosophy versus Revelation: which is real, which is false?

Philosophy is the product of man’s own imaginative thinking, the aroma of its conjecture. Religion is a divine, presumably, thought.

Both philosophy and religion deal with all aspects of what the human mind can envisage. Both predict a world-view and a universal outlook. Both deal with explanations of what we observe and what we are able to think upon.

Both are theoretical frameworks that do not provide proof nor evidence for their proclamation. Both philosophy and religion offer man an insight into things, objects and phenomena. Both call on logic to persuade the mind and the heart to believe and accept what they assume.

Where philosophy and religion part company is in the origin of the proclamations and premises they proclaim. This origin is man in philosophy and God in revelation. If you do not happen to believe in God then you would consider religion as a product of man. The great majority of human beings believe it is the product of man’s own thinking and imagination.

While philosophy attempts to draw out for you a cornerstone of thought embedded, whether in materialism or in metaphysics, religion asserts that God is the only cornerstone for everything.

Philosophy offers you an explanation of the universe and religion sends the universe to its creator God. Philosophy may or may not believe in God for it is the product of humans and these are prone to belief and disbelief, while religion’s only thesis is God is.

Should We And Can We Develop An African Philosophy Of Education?: Pedagogy Of Sagacity

Should we and can we develop an African philosophy of education?: Pedagogy of Sagacity

In 1986, Njoroge and Bennaars, published Philosophy and education in Africa; an introductory text for students of education. Since the publication of this textbook there has been an intellectual aridity in this area of educational philosophizing in Kenya. This is in spite of the said textbook being merely introductory or prolegomenon. More importantly is the model proposed and formulated in this textbook intended as a conceptual framework for developing an African philosophy of education (1986; 92). This model has remained un-attempted.

My paper will argue in the affirmative while distinguishing should as a non-moral normative imperative and can as a question of ability. While indeed we should develop African philosophy of education this imperative remains unachievable until we have experts with requisite scholarly abilities.

Problem of shortage of educational philosophers

Experts in philosophy of education are called educational philosophers. They should be trained in technical philosophy and educational sciences. The two disciplines must meet in one. To ‘meet in one,’ means that an educational philosopher should integrate both technical philosophy and educational sciences as an integral area of academic specialization. Educational philosopher is the middle term between technical philosophy and educational sciences. In other words one should have academic qualification as a technical philosopher and as a trained professional teacher.

Lack of this ‘meeting in one’ of the two areas is to blame for lack of resources in this area. It means persons who are lesser than the ideal are teaching this discipline. There are two types of categories of teachers of philosophy of education in Africa who are lesser than the ideal.

ERROR IN HISTORY: GREECE IS NOT THE CRADLE OF PHILOSOPHY

1.0. INTRODUCTION

According to Oxford Dictionary, history is “the study of past events.” It is important that the citizens of a country have knowledge of the important past events that have taken place in the country. In the same vein every student of philosophy is expected not only to have knowledge of the history of philosophy but a first class knowledge of it, if he or she desires to become an outstanding philosopher. As a division of studies, the History of Philosophy tries to investigate the past of men in their rational venture. According to William Turner the History of Philosophy is “the exposition of philosophical opinions and of systems and schools of philosophy.” The History of Philosophy does not only deal with the positions, systems and schools of philosophy, but also gives considerations to the lives of philosophers, the common link of the systems and schools of thought, moreover, it also makes an effort to trace the route of philosophical progression and retrogression.

The general conception, even among professional philosophers, is that Greece is the cradle of philosophy. Therefore, almost all the available histories of philosophy, and philosophers themselves, agree that the so-called Pre-Socratics were the first or earliest philosophers, at least, in the Western world. Unlike the early thinkers of India and China, the Pre-Socratics did not think exegetically out of ancient scriptures or poems, but they spoke “as disrespectfully of the greatest poets they did to each other.” The most excellent reason for this popular conception is that first known philosophers in history lived among the Greeks. According to some authors in history of philosophy, the pre- Socratics were Greeks. Indeed, no one has ever succeeded in writing a complete history of philosophy; for philosophy like the works of arts, are intensely personal things. Our aim is to attempt a justification on why Greece may not necessarily be the cradle of philosophy.

The Philosophy Exam Vs Kabbalah

There was a story, an urban legend, of a philosophy professor who wrote only one question on his final exam. The question was “Why?” His students thought carefully before putting pen to paper. Many then began writing long expositions. However, the professor deemed each student’s answer wrong except one – “Why not?”

You can imagine how angered the students were. Some thought that this was unethical, even downright cruel. Some even left philosophy thinking that the professor did not have any true perception of life’s purpose whatsoever, thinking that all life happened accidentally.

Can philosophy accurately answer the question, “What is the purpose of my life?”  Everyone can write a different answer, since philosophy deals with what each person sees within his or her own mind. When a hundred students try to answer this question, there will be a hundred different answers; and even when a philosophy professor finds wisdom in only one paper – especially in the response “Why not?” – This does not provide any true help for any of us and we do not get any closer to finding the true answer.

To find this answer, what we need is a scientific method, and the wisdom of Kabbalah provides just such a method. From the first Kabbalist – who was able to penetrate through matter and discover the hidden laws of Nature governing the universe – this wisdom has been transferred from teacher to student for millennia, from one generation to the next. Each teacher had personally researched and understood the governing laws of Nature, and thus discovered that there was indeed a purpose. These teachers, who undertook to examine this question in complete detail, are called Kabbalists.

Any Rand’s Philosophy of Objectivism: an Epistemological Analytical Discussion and Treatment

Ayn Rand’s Philosophy of Objectivism: An Epistemological Analytical Discussion and Analysis

                                                        ABSTRACT

Having the ability and opportunity to “become the best within us” is our charge to be selfish.  This is Ayn Rand’s basic philosophy of Objectivism. The word selfish usually conjures up a negative representation. Self-serving ambitions tend to be viewed as being disrespectful of others; however, there are times when being selfish are necessary and expected.

Introduction

Ayn Rand introduced the world to her philosophy of Objectivism beginning in the mid 1930’s. Objectivism is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute. Using Atlas Shrugged (1957) this author will show how Ayn Rand lays out Objectivism to prove that selfishness is right and good.

Purpose of the Article

The purpose of this article is to establish the reasons that all men should be selfish. There is a time and place when it is appropriate for a self-serving motive. A man supporting his life through his best efforts is selfish, and it is right and good. A man who works to his utmost potential is selfish, and it is right and good. A self-made man who lives off the profit of his own capabilities is selfish, and it is right and good.

Dr Stephen Lundin to present his Fish philosophy in Dubai

Right Selection Events, the leader in personal development in the Middle East and organiser of well-known management speaker forums, has announced a one-day seminar with Dr Stephen Lundin on November 1, 2006.

The seminar will be held at the Movenpick Hotel, Dubai.

The Fish philosophy was made famous by Dr Lundin’s film Fish, an award winning documentary about fish-throwing fishmongers at the Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle who every day, turn a cold and slippery business into a fun place to work and shop. Renowned for its bustling atmosphere and great customer service, and largely thanks to its committed and satisfied staff, the Pike Place Fish Market is considered to be an outstanding example of how a traditionally difficult work environment can be positively transformed.

Announcing the event, Mr Ram Ganglani, Chief Executive, Right Selection Events said, ‘We continue with our efforts to bring the best known speakers in today’s management world to the region. Dr Stephen Lundin will use the seminar to deliver ideas and skills that could change your workplace and life forever.’
