I must admit that for whatever reason, this week has me feeling as if I am in a ‘funk’. I am not sure if it is all the dopey way people have been acting and/or thinking lately, or if I’m just coming down with something. Either way, and none the less I am in a ‘funk’, therefore, please pardon if I offend, that is not my intention now or ever. Also, please pardon the length of this article; it is required to demonstrate completely what I wish to highlight.

I found it rather interesting this week that all the major media services have begun to report that gasoline prices are raising even higher, each and every day and this may signal a lot of trouble and problems to come. We didn’t really need them to tell us this however, while they continue to report the obvious; you and I can detect and learn of a ‘new’ underlying philosophy hiding under and spreading across the globe along with the increasing of oil prices.

You may not have heard of it, nor had the misfortunate to come into contact with the ‘new philosophy’, so I will attempt to explain it to you. Now I could just blurt it out, however, you would not understand me completely and therefore you would move on to other more interesting, and easier to understand articles to read. Therefore I have broken down this ‘new philosophy’ into how four different groups of people with each of their unique versions or spin of this ‘new philosophy’ are infecting the overall ‘thought of the moment’.

A good portion of adults have begun to notice that they are getting larger and larger in size. When they weight themselves they can plainly see that they are now a member of the over-weight club. This causes a great deal of emotional distress and uncomfortableness along with the discomfort of tight fitting clothes. [Please don’t misunderstand me, not everyone that is overweight has their version of the following ‘new philosophy’. Also, not every overweight person is overweight because of their actions or inaction.] This group’s version of the ‘new philosophy’ goes something like this while in conversion with experts on overweight issues; they say ‘give me some ‘diet’ that allows me to remain in my usual inactive lifestyle, while eating the same if not a bit more of my favorite foods and snacks’. This group’s version is simply, ‘I want a miracle cure now, however, not a real solution that involves any effort and/or moderation and personal responsibility’. Again, not all overweight people believe this, however, the group that do, is growing larger everyday in more than just dress sizes. Just as a bad attitude has the effect of a spreading wildfire, so does this dopey way of thinking.

The next group is College graduates. A large portion, no not all again, has begun to exercise their version of the ‘new philosophy’ and it goes like this. ‘Don’t even think of offering me a job with an average starting wage, don’t expect me to grow in understanding as well as in pay grade with greater knowledge and as I learn the ropes of this new position’! Just pay me like the CEO and if that’s not possible I understand. However, you will then just have to give me the winning numbers for next week’s lottery drawing’! Simply put, ‘I have learned everything there is to know, I am a know-it-all and will not stand to be educated by anyone any further. I will not start out a career and work myself up the ‘corporate ladder’ and pay scale, I will not ‘sacrifice’ any of my nights or weekends while in training because I don’t do training and lastly, just pay me like the top person of this company, and pay me right now’! Again, not all however a rather large percentage does hold to this version of the ‘new philosophy’. This is also the very same group that has learned to dismiss any bad behavior with examples of other-worst bad behavior.

The next group is the non-graduated and other various ‘up and coming’ levels of educated as well as those who drop out before completing various requirements. This group’s version of the ‘new philosophy’ is: ‘let’s come up with the most outlandish, over-the-top, immoral, hurtful, ridiculous activity that we can film with our video camera or phone camera! Then we will upload it to Youtube and we will get rich and famous all at the same time and never have to work another day in our lives’. Simply put, ‘give me money, fame, and even more fortune for my utterly unworthy contribution and reckless behavior under the guise of ‘humor’. After all this is the time of reality shows and instant fame and fortune, and so ‘get out of my way, I want mine and I want it now’!

This group has hit upon one very valid point however. We as a people have learned to forget what a person did to get to the position of fame and fortune they now hold. It’s as if once you get it, by any means possible, the method and means is quickly forgotten and you gain unearned, undeserved respect along with your new found fortune. This has got to stop! We need to hold people to creditability standards once again. Simple fame does not or should not ever equal respect.

The last and the most destructive group is the pseudo-religious camp. This group goes around doing actions that THEY one, say and ADMIT are totally offensive to God. Two, these actions are considered and understood to be a sin in God’s eyes. This group however, instead of having any true contrition and guilt of wrong doing, and instead of taking any action to prevent the re-occurrence of the said action, they boldfacely display their wrong actions until approached by another wishing to assist them to see the ‘error of their ways’. Then this group protests loudly and responds, ’you aren’t suppose to judge me, and just because you have pointed out my fault you are a negative person and even a threat to me and to my way of life’. Simply put, they hold to the misconceived tarradiddle dribble that, ‘God loves me even if I continue to do wrong actions under my control, over and over again even if I am not one bit contrite’. The ‘icing on the cake’ is that they PLAN to do the wrong doing or to continue in the action again and again with no thought of changing or stopping’! They continue to say, ‘God doesn’t punish wrongdoers, He doesn’t wish for anyone in error to come into the light of contrition and put a stop to their wrong doing’. ‘No, He doesn’t detest the action or wrong doing. ‘It is all a simple matter of personal perspective’! What a bunch of slobbering dribble!

Lately, anyone who would point out this group’s version of the ‘new philosophy’ as wrong and an action to resist and stop at once are called a threat, a bad, negative and hateful person. Even some of the new ‘hate crime’ laws could now apply to anyone pointing out the ‘error of this group’s ways’!

This group isn’t made up of just one type or another but rather a wide and varying type of people and behavior. The whole misconceived error that God loves a person no matter whatever they do is the root of the trouble. No, God only loves those who come before Him with complete contrition and repentance with the fore-thought of changing the behavior in question. With full contrition and repentance (which infers change or the ceasing of doing the wrong) God’s is then full of mercy! If one goes around taunting God with their actions and this misconceived error, they will find that they are on the fast track to where they do not want to be and to total separation from God and His people! Separation does not infer any hateful fore-thought or intention to separate. Do not allow this religious version of the ‘new philosophy’ to infect your children; for it will only equal more dissatisfaction and a life of pain and separation. Irregardless of religious denomination, the truth and not the misconceived lie applies to all religions and religious denominations and even to those who live their lives the way they think ‘A God’ would want, outside of any formed church or religious denomination or group! Lastly, do not make the fatal error, or allow another to dismiss your words by quickly claiming, that the above discussion of the truth falls anywhere under the ‘work-righteousness’ umbrella. I am not inferring anyone to ‘work away’ any sin or making oneself more desirable to God by actions or any inaction outside of faith and contrition. No, only with full contrition and repentance of ALL wrong doing are we gathered up and embraced by God.

After examining the four groups and their various versions of the ‘new philosophy’ can you now understand how I found it interesting and disturbing that this was quickly becoming the new ‘normal’. ‘The new philosophy’ says that it is okay to want a change of something, however, do not provide any effort or action to change a situation to a more pleasing disposition.

Now I am sure you are also wondering how all this has any connection the current problem of rising gasoline prices. As I have stated before, the very same ‘new philosophy’ has even crept into the current ‘thought’ over the new gas price war, allow me to explain.

In the four groups detailed, the over all theme was, a want a change, however, I won’t do anything or offer anything to bring about the change. We all want much lower gas prices and we all want it now. However, we don’t want anyone to attempt to correct the problem by creating more oil and in turn more fuel, increasing the supply and driving the prices down in our supply and demand economy. ‘Nope! Don’t drill here, there or anywhere close to my neighborhood. Don’t even think of drilling over there because of some ‘protected’ insect or fish or maybe some other lower level life form resides there. Just lower the gas prices-now’!

When things are as bad as they are now, rightful and conscience people make the choice to do the ‘worst of two evils’. Some lower, yet valuable, life form can not and should not be held to be ‘more valuable’ than our way of life and the greater good of our Country and the good it does for mankind over all!

I want you to understand this ‘new philosophy’ is as dangerous as it is ridiculous. We must understand that our country runs on transportation, i.e. various forms of gasoline and the interrelatedness and/or contingent upon what it does for our economy. Our children could have to learn to do without a lot of fresh produce as well as without as much food period! Why? Because their parents, the store owners, the food suppliers, the food distributors, food growers, the food pickers all need gasoline and/or are affected when our economy uses and provides more or less gasoline!

The most dangerous possibility of the current problem is that our military has the job to protect us and our country. If they don’t have enough gasoline (diesel) they can’t protect us. Planes, tanks, armored vehicles, troop carriers and so on, all need various forms of gasoline. If another country decided to invade the US from the south, our military may not have the resources to protect and to chase back the invaders. Our military may be forced to draw back to ‘a center point’ to re-group resources, and allow a few southern states to go in an attempt to be able to save the bulk of the US! This is a scary possibility.

Now, just as I am no theologian with any formal religious instruction, I have no position of authority with our Government and I say what I do without any insider information from the Government or our military. Anyone who has studied the ways and means of the past two-hundred years of history and military action can infer the problems I highlighted above. It is a real possibility and threat to the overall way we live! This means that it is a threat to our country-the United States of America! It’s not clever rhetoric and magniloquence, it’s a fact. Everything in our supply and demand economy is inter-related and co-dependent upon each other. Any significant change or decrease in one area causes a decrease and change across the board. Something as seemingly indifferent as a large percentage of campers not paying the Federal camping fees or park fees, means a lot less money in one part of the Federal government and it will effect the over all Federal government as well as various local economies!

When one sits and ponders, the effects of our current fuel shortage, irregardless of whether it is a ‘true shortage’ of actual production or simply a shortage due to price and expense, it is very chilling and could be the reason why you and I will be feeling as if we are in a ‘funk’ for quite some time! It truly is scary and nothing to laugh or smile about.

Now, is this dopey ‘new philosophy’ really all that new? Could it be simple old-fashioned laziness with a new coat of paint along with a sense of individual entitlement? The results of the ‘new philosophy’ could be the results of all of us having to learn to do without and to do everything in a very different way, very soon. Remember from past problems and history we have learned that how we as a people respond and how we either take or don’t take action determines how our economy and our way of life will be tomorrow. We are Americans, the proudest people on this planet for a reason. We have created more, while the rest do without more!

Nothing that is worth anything to anyone is ever free or easy, and it doesn’t come without hard work and serious sacrifice. Please recognize the roots of this destructive and counter-productive ‘new philosophy’ and dopey thinking. Wherever it pokes its head, call it what it is and identify it for those who missed it! Please be bold enough to set the record straight. Even if you are singled out as a hateful person, still attempt to set the record straight. Why? Because when we do we are insuring our tomorrow to the way we all want it to continue to be. Then just maybe soon, and without a great deal or much further personal sacrifice, we all will be so very fortunate once again because of smart minds, strong backs and a God who smiles down on us with favor.

Philosophy is primarily the pursuit of wisdom; An academic discipline that seeks truth through reasoning rather than empiricism; A comprehensive system of belief; A view or outlook regarding fundamental principles underlying some domain. Thus philosophy is an amalgamate of two Greek words; “philier” meaning, the one who desires, and “sophia”, meaning, wisdom. Thus philosophy means the one who desires wisdom. It is a means of gaining wisdom through an intellectual method that includes observation, questioning, research, argumentation and final conclusion. Although philosophy does not have any definite answers to questions, and answers keep changing with more research and scrutiny into the matter. Thus philosophy is the investigation of nature, the cause and effect relationship and the working of nature.

Philosophy aims to identify the causes and principles of Reality. It draws a line between appearance and reality and weighs the value of things with reference to these two principles. Philosophy, as considered by many people, is not a rambling of the ,ind or a hypothetical kind of a subject. It based on thorough intellectual investigation and conclusions drawn with effection argumentation. It not only focuses on events, but critical study of fundamental assumptions. Thus it is grounded in logical thinking, facts and reasoning.

WHAT IS PHILOSOPHY? Is a broad based question. We can understand it better if we analyse the different stages through which it has had to pass. The ancient, medieval, renaissance, early modern and late modern and the contemprary philosophy have existed through ages. Because in all ages people were curious about their beginning and end. The subjects under scrutiny have been rationalism, existentialism,( later followed by literary writers such as Tom Stoppard and Eugene Ionesco in 1950′s) skepticism, idealism, pragmatism etc. human nature and politics as well as morality have long remained the subjects of discussion. Thus, metaphysics, ethics, philosophy of language, religion and mind as well as epistemology are all parts of it. These questions are indispensable to being alive.

Socrates is quoted to have said that,

“A life without the critical examination of the “self” is not worth living”

Philosophy through its fundamental methods of intellectual investigation forms a better understanding of the world around us. That comprises culture, politics, attitudes and ideas around us. Although philosophy is independent of religion and deems it out of its realm, but in many of its applications to the worldly life, religion comes into play and certain linkages can be formed between the two. Yet, philosophy operates at an individual level, thus it is not limited by religious dogma or certain belief system.

In philosophy we talk about metaphysical matters that cannot be handled by physical and natural sciences alone. Therefore we have subjects like social sciences and humanities that tackle existentialist issues. Philosophy too unearths matters of greater consequence to human life and existence in this world and the eventual end of human beings. Thus we identify the truth and Reality behind the created world.

Philosophers have had different ideas about everything. The more we read their philosophies, the more we know about our ignorance. The way Socrates said that the more I discover, the lesser I know. Some said that the world was made on water and keeps changing form. While others exemplifies and simply elaborated this.

Comprised of six basic pillars, philosophy deals with knowledge, Reality, truth, science, sense of good and bad as well as religion. All these ideas merge and converge at one single point known as the methodology. Thus these all help us explore the multifaceted realm of philosophical thought.

Talking about religion and philosophy, the work of Allama Muhammad Iqbal known as “Reconstruction Of Religious Thought In Islam” has left a mark on the philosophers and historians alike, in discovering the inextricable connection between religious thought and its manifestation in philosophy and vice versa. Following is an extract that gives a clearer meaning to this interconnection.

Broadly speaking religious life may be divided into three periods. These may be described as the periods of ‘Faith’, ‘Thought’, and ‘Discovery.’ In the first period religious life appears as a form of discipline which the individual or a whole people must accept as an unconditional command without any rational understanding of the ultimate meaning and purpose of that command. This attitude may be of great consequence in the social and political history of a people, but is not of much consequence in so far as the individual’s inner growth and expansion are concerned. Perfect submission to discipline is followed by a rational understanding of the discipline and the ultimate source of its authority. In this period religious life seeks its foundation in a kind of metaphysics – a logically consistent view of the world with God as a part of that view. In the third period metaphysics is displaced by psychology, and religious life develops the ambition to come into direct contact with the Ultimate Reality. It is here that religion becomes a matter of personal assimilation of life and power; and the individual achieves a free personality, not by releasing himself from the fetters of the law, but by discovering the ultimate source of the law within the depths of his own consciousness. As in the words of a Muslim Sufi – ‘no understanding of the Holy Book is possible until it is actually revealed to the believer just as it was revealed to the Prophet.’1 It is, then, in the sense of this last phase in the development of religious life that I use the word religion in the question that I now propose to raise. Religion in this sense is known by the unfortunate name of Mysticism, which is supposed to be a life-denying, fact-avoiding attitude of mind directly opposed to the radically empirical outlook of our times. Yet higher religion, which is only a search for a larger life, is essentially experience and recognized the necessity of experience as its foundation long before science learnt to do so. It is a genuine effort to clarify human consciousness, and is, as such, as critical of its level of experience as Naturalism that is of its own level.

The aspect of knowledge refers to that of God, people, issues and the Universal implications of human actions. Reality is the key factor that distinguishes the material world from the real world. Thus we see a gaping difference between realism, idealism and materialism in today’s age. These ideas have transformed and manifested themselves in several different panoramas, and demand equally different approach on an individual level. Each individual thinker and philosopher has to discover these phenomena and come up an argument of personal development. Because what might be modernity for one will not hold the same meaning for the other.

Some people believe in scientific investigation to chart a belief system for themselves while other go by religious dogma. While philosophy in Russell’s work is

“A no man’s land between religion and science.”

Thus none of the two can command definite control over philosophical thought. The truth is that the knowledge of all is within us, it only needs to be identified, rehearsed through observation and investigation.

Know the Philosophy Terms Easily

If you are person who is interested in understanding the philosophy terms then finding the reliable philosophy dictionary will be highly beneficial.
Best Product for Adult Acne

I have been using Proactiv for years to control my acne however now in my 30′s my skin has become uneven and dull looking. I needed to get a product that was anti-aging and still control my breakouts. After doing some research retinol was a proven ingredient so I decided to give Philosophy’s Help Me a try.
This product is amazing! I noticed a difference in about 2 weeks. Since then I trust the Philosophy name and ordered other products and my skin has become make-up optional.

BuyingPhilosophy | Help Me | Retinol Treatment | Skin Care Treatment For Face

Finally, a great product!

I recently had a horrible reaction to prime time oil control primer from bare escentuals and had lots of acne and acne scarring as a result. I was incredibly distraught and tried product after product to help take care of the situation. I finally discovered this product from Philosophy and for about a week and a half now I’ve been using the retinol night cream in conjunction with Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar facial moisturizer. The improvement is amazing! My acne is pretty much gone, the scars are fading fast, my skin tone looks much more even, and my skin looks (and this is a quote from a friend) “fresh and glowing”. This is, hands down, the best product I’ve used yet…it even beats out topical prescription treatments in my book. It’s worth the money, no question.

======================================================================Completely sold on Philosophy…

For years I’ve used Proactiv on and off for my battle with acne. Proactiv has proved effective over the years but I had a few problems with the products:
1. The Price… For a cleanser, toner and moisturizer I was paying dollars a month.
2. The Amount… I could NEVER get the cleanser and toner to last me the full month. To cover my face I needed half the bottle, and it is NOT an effective makeup remover.
3. Dryness… dried my skin out BAD. And the moisturizer sucked, but I couldn’t customize my order to remove it.

After much research, debate and watching the infomercial over several times over I decided to switch to Philosophy. Now if you purchase Philosophy products individually it does get pretty spendy, but no more or less than other department store facial products. As a package it’s a helluva deal.

I got the cleanser, moisturizer, retinol, exfoliating cleanser, eye/lip cream, shampoo/body wash, lip gelato, another exfoliating cream, and the Vitamin C booster AND A FREE GIFT for LESS than what I paid for my three rinky dinky Proactiv products.

For 8 products I paid 9.00 for 3 months. 3 months of Proactiv is 5, at the least.

The Philosophy product themselves have been life changing for me. If I absolutely had to choose one that I love the best I would have to say it’s the Help Me.

This stuff is absolutely amazing. My skin is very sensitive to retinol, and continuous use of it for me on a weekly basis usually leads to a rash. This product seems to have enough retinol to do the job, but not enough to make me get a burn. I swear, within a FEW DAYS I noticed a difference, and I wasn’t the only one. My husband has raved about the lack of lines under my eyes, and swear the product has taken years off of my face. Like all of Philosophy’s stuff a little goes a long way, and always put moisturizer on afterwards, especially with the Help Me. Retinol is extremely beneficial to skin, but one must handle it with care. Frankly, I am not sure if it is the Help Me alone that has done it, or a combination of the Philosophy products I have invested in. Either which way, I have become a true lover of their products!!!

=======================================================================

Love it.

I was sceptical, but it works. It really unclogged my pores, made them smaller and made blemishes disappear over a few nights. I like consistency-lightweight and absorbs quick, with no residue on the skin. It’s gentle yet effective. A little goes long way, and this tube is going to last me forever. No odd smells. As far as working on lines I don’t know yet, but retinol is known for that job and probably I’ll see it overtime. If you hesitate ask for a sample at the store, I did it before purchase, and I was amazed.

=======================================================================

Best product I’ve ever used on my face!

I started using Help Me two weeks ago. I’ve already seen a reduction in the brown patches on my forehead and cheeks (i.e., melasma) by maybe 20%, less noticeable pores (because they’re getting cleaned out), smoother skin, reduced small wrinkles around my eyes, and – I didn’t know this would happen – a reduction in the dark circles under my eyes! I’ve never used a retinol product before, but I am really surprised at how well this works. After the first week, it did sting slightly for about 30 seconds after applying, but that hasn’t gotten any worse since. Also, I did start getting very small dry skin patches near my eyes and a bit on my cheeks/chin, but I hadn’t been applying moisturizer on top of Help Me like it recommends, so now I do and the little bit of dryness has gone away.

I am excited to see if the improvements keep on getting better, or if it will plateau after awhile. So far, I’m a big fan of this product and highly recommend it! I usually get most of my beauty products at the drugstore because I never notice that much of a difference between the cheaper vs. expensive brands, but I think Help Me is worth the department store price for sure.

BACON’S RELATIONS WITH HIS PHILOSOPHY

By Allama Muhammad Yousuf Gabriel

Yousuf_gabriel@yahoo.com

The philosophies in the pre-modern ages taught poverty, patience, perseverance, and sacrifice of this transient world for the sake of the next eternal world. This world was to be shunned as an issue of deceit. Love of God was preferred to the love of wealth and this world. The torture of worldly misery was thus mitigated, and also the calamity was attributed to the will of God and was thus taken with patience. All the givers of revealed religion, excepting perhaps Solomon, lived in poverty and preferred poverty to wealth. The lives of all the great teachers of mankind, e.g Socrates, Budha, Christ and the Prophet of Islam, peace be upon him, serve as the precedent. Bacon’s life on the other had is an example of the worldly pleasure and luxury and engenders hatred for poverty, morality and humility. Epicurus may only be seen to side with Bacon in this.

Bacon’s relation to his own philosophy may be surmised as follows:-

“Love of wealth, power and ostentation was inherent in the nature of Bacon, that he might give the philosophy of fruit and man’s right of dominion over nature. And his mind was so set on these things that he went as far as condemning the moral philosophy and misinterpreting the word of Bible”.

If the tree is recognised by its fruit then the mind of Bacon could be recognised by its philosophy. And if the fruit is related to the tree then the philosophy of Bacon is certainly related to the mind which produced it. Emperor Akber confirmed the philosophy which raised him to the status, that of the Shadow of God. And if Diogenes had given a philosophy he must naturally had given the philosophy of Tub-dwelling. And thus if the people had accepted the testy philosophy of Diogenes with as much eagerness as they have accepted the odoriferous and flavoursome philosophy of Bacon, then surely the trade of tubs would have flourished to the extent to which the trace of house building has flourished in the times of Bacon. However, do what we may to expose Bacon, and explain Bacon’s philosophy, this world of today may hardly be expected to take notice of it, for indeed, so blindly intoxicated it appears to be by the inebriating effects of the philosophy of fruit and worldly pleasure, that no advice, no warning could have any effect. Bacon may reign supreme as the greatest and the most genuine benefactor of mankind, till the worst has happened. No doubt, the factor of humanity’s helplessness in the chains of this universal economico-industrial set up of the Baconian progress could not be ignored. Bacon during his life had himself constructed and put on the chains, and so have his followers. It may be asked why Bacon had made the attainment of highest places of great wealth and great power as the inevitable object of his life. While diverse other equally able and perhaps abler men in history had acquiesced in a life of poverty as their lot in the world, and had produced works equally great if not greater than those produced by Bacon. Why it is to be wondered, almost every man who wrote about Bacon, lamented his difficulties in obtaining the highest places in the administration, as if it has been a natural right of Bacon to have the places of wealth, honour and power. The reason for this could be guessed as the appreciation of Bacon’s philosophy of lucre and luxury which they entertained in the light of their own worldly desires.

To know the mind of Bacon is to know his philosophy. And to know his philosophy is to know these who accepted and adopted his philosophy. And to know the life of Bacon is to know the life of his followers. And further to know the end of Bacon is to know the end of his followers. And because the entire world has followed him, therefore it means the end of all in shame, in misery, in the burning flames of the hell of atomic bombs and atomic radiations.

Bacon’s philosophy stands unique in all history as a philosophy of universal acceptance and prevalence, so that it has surpassed every other philosophy. Buddha’s philosophy claims the allegiance of but a part of mankind. The same may be said of Hindu philosophy. The same may be said of Islam and of Christianity. But Bacon’s philosophy of science-guided, materialistic progress owns the allegiance of the entire world, east and west, white and black, yellow and green, unchallenged and unshared by any other. Indeed, it has seized this mankind like the intoxication of wine, so that every nation on earth is engaged in the race of progress, viewing with each other and endeavouring to excel every other, surpass every other, and outwit every other, knowing that they tended toward a blazing, braying, boiling and bursting atomic hell. The credit, however, for so unique so admirable and so wonderful a success of Bacon’s philosophy is shared with Bacon by his followers due to their unreserved acceptance and hard, incessant endeavour not for a year, not for a couple of years, but for centuries at stretch. To them it has been like an article of faith. So complete has been the acceptance of Bacon’s philosophy by the entire human race, and so complete and perfect has been their adoption of Baconian culture, that a complete unmistakable identity of attitude, appearance, behaviour, and demeanour may be observed from one corner of the world to the other, and the portrait of Bacon may be discerned visibly imprinted in the mind even of those who have never heard the name of Bacon, and have not even seen him in dream. This identity does not end here, but further their end may also be expected as identical both in this world and the next.

Bacon’s philosophy has furnished the mankind with a unique example of the inadequacy of human mind for the requirements of giving a philosophy of life to humanity. The philosophy of Bacon after its universal prevalence for centuries together, and inspite of its great rationalistic wisdom, its admirable freedom from dark superstition, its laudable enlightenment, its joys, its comforts, and its literary, scientific and economic achievements has eventually brought the mankind to a grief as universal and catastrophic as is the prevalence and the nature of Baconian philosophy.

“To conclude therefore”, writes Bacon, ” let no man upon weak conceit of sobriety or ill-applied moderation think or maintain, that a man can search too far, or be too well studied in the book of God’s word, or in the book of God’s works, divinity or philosophy; but rather let men endeavour an endless progress of proficience in both; only let men beware that they apply both to charity, and not to swelling; to use, and not to ostentation; and again, that they do not unwisely mingle or confound these learnings together”.

                        (Advancement of Learning, page 10)

Answer to Bacon may be:-

” To conclude therefore, let no man upon a strong conceit of wisdom or ill-applied zeal , think or maintain, that a man can search too far, or be too well studied to give mankind a philosophy of life. But let men rather realize their place and desist from taking upon themselves a duty which appertains to the prophets ordained by God himself”.

Says, W.H.D.Rouse, ” Milton’s poetry, especially “Paradise Lost”, is a universe infused with mind, giving the same impression of irresistible and overwhelming force as the universe itself. His thoughts fill the imagination and transcend it. His rhythms fill the ears like the sound of the sea. Sense and intellect are filled, and more than filled. We feel the same complete satisfaction and fullness in Homer, but with Milton we feel also a kind of awe. Homer is man’s poet; by him all the passions and enthusiasms of humanity are sung with perfect sympathy; man with all his failings, often so lovable, some times so dark, becomes a god, or at least shows his capacity for god-head. Virgil again, the poet of imperial dignity and national ambition, paints for us the pathos of human frailty, and the tragedy of a gentle soul chosen by fate to do ungentle deeds. With these the divine is something not to be explained, that must be endured or obeyed. Homer, despairing perhaps of any rational explanation of the universe, touches his gods with light ridicule; yet he owns a moral rule, which the best men must obey they know not why, only he does not explicitly connect this with a divine sanction. With Virgil, divine has something of the grimness of a stoic fate: Its plans are dark, but they must be carried out, no matter if men and women are broken. Milton has the courage to grapple with the great problem: He will justify the ways of God to man. If he does not succeed in doing this, that is because the thing cannot be done by human intellects”.

(Introduction to Poetical works of John Milton page viii)

Now we have no objection to this opinion. Nay, we would be rather the happier if Milton’s works, are extolled in even higher strains and with greater assiduity. But when we here from Mr. Rouse that, ” nothing now remains to say about John Milton: his place among the immortals is secure”, a cloud of doubt appears before the eye of our mind. And we think, paradoxically though that nothing of real worth as yet has been said of Milton. Milton’s example is of an instrument placed in exhibition, whose beauty, appearance, and form is praised by every onlooker, but none has ever broached the topic of its aim, object, or purpose. Ever since the memorable works of Milton, namely, ” The Paradise Lost”, and ” The Paradise Regained”, have appeared, their literary and poetical value has been assessed. Indeed these works of Milton are of so high an order that excepting the possibility of doctrinal differences, their literary and poetic merit cannot be fully extolled. But more than the assessment of their poetic value, the necessity of the judgment of their basic object and purpose deserves precedence. Yet it may be pointed out with regret that no thought whatsoever has hitherto been given to this very important fact. It is by this means that Milton may be rescued from oblivion, with revived interest, and with real benefit to a misguided world, not because we have greater sympathy with Milton than other celebrities that have been lost in oblivion, but because these works of Milton have a direct bearing on this modern age of Baconian atomism, and are as important as any treatise on atomic science. Perhaps even more important due to the much required spiritual element.

We will here briefly state the object of these works of Milton, and will briefly support our statement by the evidence of certain excerpts from ” The Paradise Lost”, Milton (1608-1674) born twelve years before the publication of Bacon’s “Novum Orgaum”, and well aware of Galileo’s astronomical discoveries, and one of the greatest scholars of his age, and well acquainted with the state of the surrounding world, could not have been regarded as ignorant of that Baconian storm which was then brewing in the western Christendom. And Milton a Christian to the core of his heart could not have been expected to endorse the antichristian and Mammonistic culture of the worldly philosophy of modern atomism. “The Paradise Lost”, is as much the epic of Adam’s fall from Paradise as it is of man’s fall into the ungodly, materialistic culture of Baconian atomism. And Milton’s “Paradise Lost” is not only a universe infused with mind, but it is at the same time is a dire yell of a stubborn, and deeply religious mind against the approaching cavalcade of Baconian heathenism.

—————————————————————————————————
