Aiming to be Different: the New Hi-tech Player in Jakarta?s English Language Education Sector
Aiming to be Different
The new hi-tech player in Jakarta’s English language education sector.
By David Keating.
Jakarta, May 5th 2007
Both learning and using the English language have now become a major part of the lives of many Indonesians. From a young age children begin learning English at schools, meaning the majority of Indonesians who complete formal school education have at least a basic grasp of the fundamentals of the language.
Increasingly, families are recognizing that children who take language education one step further are getting a ‘head start’ on their peers when it comes to higher education and the employment market. From an early age, some modern Indonesian families (especially those in the big cities) incorporate English into the daily lives of their children through family conversation and after-school language classes. The result of this upsurge in demand for language education has been an increasing number of language schools, and nowhere can this trend better be seen than in Indonesia’s capital city, Jakarta.
A bewildering variety of English language courses are on offer for Jakarta’s youth, from ‘private’ classes with individual teachers to the array of different types of programs offered by the multitude of commercial language schools in the city. There are now English courses aimed at people from all walks of life, and for an array of different purposes:
Academic English, Business English, IELTS preparation, General English, Conversation, TOEFL preparation, writing classes, business communication, ESP(English for specific purposes)… the list goes on…
2 questions will be addressed here:
Philosophy versus Revelation: which is real, which is false?
Philosophy versus Revelation: which is real, which is false?
Philosophy is the product of man’s own imaginative thinking, the aroma of its conjecture. Religion is a divine, presumably, thought.
Both philosophy and religion deal with all aspects of what the human mind can envisage. Both predict a world-view and a universal outlook. Both deal with explanations of what we observe and what we are able to think upon.
Both are theoretical frameworks that do not provide proof nor evidence for their proclamation. Both philosophy and religion offer man an insight into things, objects and phenomena. Both call on logic to persuade the mind and the heart to believe and accept what they assume.
Where philosophy and religion part company is in the origin of the proclamations and premises they proclaim. This origin is man in philosophy and God in revelation. If you do not happen to believe in God then you would consider religion as a product of man. The great majority of human beings believe it is the product of man’s own thinking and imagination.
While philosophy attempts to draw out for you a cornerstone of thought embedded, whether in materialism or in metaphysics, religion asserts that God is the only cornerstone for everything.
Philosophy offers you an explanation of the universe and religion sends the universe to its creator God. Philosophy may or may not believe in God for it is the product of humans and these are prone to belief and disbelief, while religion’s only thesis is God is.
Why Students Require Science Home Work Help
Students taking science courses face challenges when writing science papers. The students find it difficulty to write their science papers because they do not have enough materials to use when writing their science papers. The students taking science courses are supposed to use secondary and primary sources when writing the science papers. Most students don’t know the different types of sources to use when writing their science papers. The students find it difficulty to identify the sources to use when writing their science papers. This has affected the quality of science papers the students submit. It has also affected the student’s performance. Instructors grade science papers according to the sources used.
Students who use both secondary and primary sources when writing science papers get high marks. On the other hand, students who do not use both secondary and primary sources when writing their science papers get lows marks. The sources used help make the content of the science papers valid. In addition, students find it difficulty to allocate enough time to write science papers. Most students taking science courses are either part time or regular students. The students have other activities to carry out apart from reading. For example, the students have to take care of their families and work. This makes it difficulty for the students to prepare their science papers well.
Introduction to the Deep Sea Environment
The Deep Sea Environment In this essay we shall discuss several aspects of the deep sea environment. The main focus will be on the environment below the Mesopelagic Zone that extends down to 2000 meters below sea level with an emphasis on the environment in the Bathypelagic and Abyssalpelagic Zones.
We will examine the sources of evidence for a discussion of this deep sea environment by looking at some of the techniques man uses to gather information there. This will be followed by a description of some of the determining conditions in these regions with a note on geology, sediments , a brief discussion of the deep water masses, a description of marine life to be found in the deep sea environment, its adaptations and challenges with a special note on hydrothermal vents (although at an average depth of 2100 meters they are just within our discussion zone), hydrocarbon seeps and a final conclusion about the overall importance of the deep sea environment for mankind.
Firstly, why study the deep sea environment at all ? The abyssal plains are dark and seem devoid of life or interest but nothing could be further from the truth. Abyssal areas represent over 90% of the benthos and over 80% of ocean lies below 3000 meters. New discoveries are being made and these could greatly influence our future.
