Islam And Democracy: Sociological Analysis

Islam and Democracy: Sociological analysis

By H. A. Yahya, Professor of Sociology

Opinions about Islam and democracy vary among Muslim thinkers and theologians. Those who are proponent of Islamic State or Islamic System tend to argue that Democracy is a concept imposed by the West. And that  democracy in this respect should not be applied particularly for Muslim community. Justifying their opinion, because they claim that democracy negates Islamic value, where Islam considers all people are equal regardless of color, or nationality, [but not of sex or gender, because man and woman are not equal in Islam for certain reasons debated widely between  believers in Islam- intellectuals and theocratic personnel].

Other groups, however, reject Democracy as exemplified, and should be resisted by Muslim communities, particularly represented by  fundamentalist, such view is obviously considered as a result of  Western colonization. For them, Democracy for both groups is the means to  split Islamic community (the Ummah) rather than unite Islamic community in  two ways by which the western colonialism intend to hamper Muslim community from unifying. 1) Muslim community is coerced to accept an understanding, belief, and parameter (Democracy) that is bequeathed by colonizers to be put into practice in Muslim countries even if it is clear not corresponding to Islamic belief. 2) The West synchronizes democracy with Islam so as to produce Muslim’s view that there is no such distinction between Islam and democracy. One of their strategies is to reject Democracy as exposed by the West .

Any Rand’s Philosophy of Objectivism: an Epistemological Analytical Discussion and Treatment

Ayn Rand’s Philosophy of Objectivism: An Epistemological Analytical Discussion and Analysis

                                                        ABSTRACT

Having the ability and opportunity to “become the best within us” is our charge to be selfish.  This is Ayn Rand’s basic philosophy of Objectivism. The word selfish usually conjures up a negative representation. Self-serving ambitions tend to be viewed as being disrespectful of others; however, there are times when being selfish are necessary and expected.

Introduction

Ayn Rand introduced the world to her philosophy of Objectivism beginning in the mid 1930’s. Objectivism is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute. Using Atlas Shrugged (1957) this author will show how Ayn Rand lays out Objectivism to prove that selfishness is right and good.

Purpose of the Article

The purpose of this article is to establish the reasons that all men should be selfish. There is a time and place when it is appropriate for a self-serving motive. A man supporting his life through his best efforts is selfish, and it is right and good. A man who works to his utmost potential is selfish, and it is right and good. A self-made man who lives off the profit of his own capabilities is selfish, and it is right and good.

Psychology Based Stress Relievers

In a month dedicated to all things lovely and beautiful, the last thing you need is to be suffering from beaucoup amounts of stress. Stress can put a damper on your love life, not to mention your health and career. Stress embodies both psychological and physical ailments and can be treated using a variety of tried and true psychotherapy techniques.

Everyone knows that working is stressful and probably the number one source of worry in life, especially with the current state of things. Economic downturn anyone? Remember that learning to prioritize your deadlines and work load can drastically relieve some pressure. Cognitive behavioral therapy is also a viable treatment for work stress as it solves problems concerning negative emotions, thoughts and behavior patterns using a goal-oriented process.  A psychologist, for example, may implement time-management training to help you more effectively manage your work flow, which he or she may then combine with mental relaxation techniques. Cognitive behavioral therapy has been proven effective in treating anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders on a grand scale, so a little work stress is nothing to stress about. Pun intended.

Now moving on to the next most stressful life occurrence, which is relationships, big shock, especially those involving the opposite sex. Most of the time your happiness hinges on what those close to you are saying and doing. Have a spat with your honey one morning? More than likely your whole day is shot. Despite the stigma surrounding this time-honored stress management technique, couples therapy is a great way to learn how to relate to your loved one. But people hear the word therapy and immediately think “only crazy people need therapy.” Not true. Couples therapy involves solving the problems between two people by identifying the conflict in a relationship. A series of discussion questions will likely be asked by a licensed counselor or psychologist aimed at starting a dialogue to help you determine what changes are needed.

Sociology Essay

Sociology essay deals with different issues related to social science. The importance of this subject is increasing day by day because of the changing social structure and mixing of different societies because of the advancement of communication systems.

Writing a sociology essay is not very easy. The characteristics of variety, complexity, indefiniteness and mobility etc. distinguish social phenomena from physical phenomena. Some of the characteristics of social phenomena are as follows-

1)      Complexity- Social phenomena are very much complex. Society is constituted by social relationships. Social relationships manifest in the mutual behavior of human beings. Human behavior is complex and vivid. This complexity makes it study more difficult than that of physical phenomena.  It has been rightly pointed out by G.A.Lundberg,” Perhaps the most frequently urged obstacle to a true science of human group behavior is the complexity of its subject matter.” In fact, innumerable factors influence human relations and behavior, of which the most important are geographical, economic, social, psychological, political, religious and cultural. Besides, so many still unknown factors also influence human behavior. All this makes human behavior very much varied and complex. It again makes it difficult to control and determine. While the factors determining physical phenomena may be easily controlled, it is not so in the case of social phenomena. As the factors determining social phenomena are not few and definite, it is difficult to find out cause effect relationship every where. Again, the factors influencing social phenomena are neither stable nor universal. For example, the economic factor does not carry the same influence every where. Therefore, as compared to physical phenomena, the social phenomena are very much complex. How ever, that does not mean that scientific method can’t be used in the field of social phenomena. In fact, complexity is a relative term. A subject matter is complex so long as our means are insufficient to probe it. How ever, if the means and methods are sufficiently developed, the same subject matter no more remains as much complex. This is particularly true about social phenomena. As means and methods in the field of social sciences develop, social phenomena will also become relatively simple and subject to scientific study.
